Students from St. Croix Central’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs recently attended the Build My Future event, where businesses and trade organizations from around the region showcased hands-on career opportunities in the skilled trades.
The event gave students the chance to explore careers in welding, construction, electrical, automotive technology, plumbing, heavy equipment operation, and more. Industry professionals provided interactive demonstrations, allowing students to try their hand at using real tools and equipment while learning about pathways into technical careers.
The Build My Future program aims to connect high school students with local employers and highlight the growing need for skilled workers in the trades. Many students came away inspired by the opportunities available through apprenticeships, technical college programs, and industry partnerships.
“Seeing all the different career options in person made me more confident about what I want to do after graduation,” said Joe Radtke, a junior in the Metals 2 class. Events like Build My Future help prepare SCC students for success beyond high school by connecting classroom learning with real-world experience—showing that the future is indeed built by those who learn to build.
