April is going to be "Have Courage and Be Kind" month at SCC Middle School! We will be doing various activities to support courage and kindness. Our annual sucker sales will take place during this time as well. A portion of the proceeds from sucker sales and and donut sales will go to Special Olympics- athletes who demonstrate courage and kindness on a daily basis!

St. Croix Central Middle School has teamed up with Skatetime School Programs® to bring an exciting and innovative physical education program to SCC students. Students are learning basic skating skills during regular gym class right on the gym floor. Skatetime® has been teaching students to skate, promoting safety and providing quality skating programs to schools for over 15 years. Headquartered in North Illinois, Skatetime® has offices operating from Chicago to Texas, as far east as Washington D.C. and west as Seattle. Middle School Forensics Recap
The Middle School Forensics season wrapped up last week with a much-deserved pizza party at SCC Middle School. Coaches Mandie Langman and Jonalee Buckel want to congratulate their Forensics Team on a job well done!
Students performed at three separate events this year: the “Indianhead Invitational” held at SCC on January 19th, the Level One Meet at Baldwin-Woodville High School on January 26th, and the Level Two Meet at Viking Middle School in Woodville on January 31st. All performing students earned a blue ribbon at one of these events this year.
Seventh grade Forensics students included: Alison Albright, Anna Sauer, Brett Iverson, Katelyn Lent, Anna Van Rossum, Chris Walker, Karter LaVenture, Grace Mansell, Ellie Shields, Gil Holme, Kaitlyn Delong, Morgan Lindquist, Ella Fern, Janessa Olson, Wyatt Turbeville, Katie Marx, Owen Rozeboom, and Maleah Collins.
Eighth grade Forensics students included: Sydney Carson, Max Larson, Kolby Hodnefield, Madeline Ford, Jakob Quarne, Heidi Wehausen, Emily Wehausen, Jenna Wehausen, Alsatia Brown, EJ Hennings, Katie Wieser, Alysha Albright, and Tyler Sippl.

Students Hit the Slopes at Trollhaugen
Mrs. Sundeen's middle school and high school adaptive physical education classes had the opportunity to go skiing at Trollhaugen Ski Resort on January 25th and February 1st. Each student was paired up with one or two ski instructors for the day. It was an all-around great experience. Mathematics Problem Solving Workshop
Four SCC Middle School students were chosen to participate in the Mathematics Problem Solving Workshop in Turtle Lake on January 30th. While there, students learned:
- how to explain their thinking to others
- mathematics through social interactions and shared understanding
- collaborated with a math team to build higher-order of thinking skills
- reinforce positive attitudes about math

Summer Boys Basketball Camp
Come join us for an intensive 4-day camp focusing on basic skills in the game of basketball. Head Varsity Coach, Zach Turpin, will work with your son to improve his overall game by getting back to the basics! Extensive work will be done on essential techniques in ball handling, passing, shooting, dribbling, and defense.

Parent - Teacher Conferences
Middle school teachers will send out mid-quarter grade updates to all parents in late February. The letter and/or email will include the following instructions:
- The letter and/or email will indicate/encourage parents to contact teachers if they'd like to set up a phone conference or a face-to-face conference.
- Conferences will be scheduled from March 27th - April 7th.
All parents are encouraged to contact their child's teacher with any questions and/or concerns.
Summer School Registration
SCC Summer School provides many opportunities for enrichment, enjoyment, recreation, and improvement for every child. Academic courses are offered in the mornings, with activity-based courses in the afternoon. Students are welcome to attend mornings and/or afternoons. The schedule this year will be as follows:
Session #1 -- All Students
- Monday-Thursday from 8:30am-3:30pm (tentative times)
- Dates: June 5-8, June 12-15, June 19-22, June 26-29
Session #2 -- By invitation only for academic intervention in grades 1-8
- Monday-Thursday from 8:30am-11:45pm (tentative times)
- Dates: Aug 7-10, Aug 14-17
July Swimming Lessons

Musical - Legally Blonde JR
This year’s middle school musical is “Legally Blonde JR”. Over fifty 5th through 8th graders will take the stage in May in for this high-energy musical. The middle schoolers will tell and sing the story of Elle Woods as she fights her way to the top at Harvard Law School in order to win the affection of a boy, Warner.
The show dates are, May 4th and 5th at 7:00 p.m. in St. Croix Central Community Auditorium at the high school. We would love to see a huge audience for these hard working middle school students.

You can purchase your middle school yearbook online until April 7, 2017! The yearbook will be full of events and memories from the 2016-17 school year.

Price: The basic yearbook will be only $15, but there are tons of upgrades you can add to make your yearbook unique.
Delivery: Yearbooks will be delivered to students around May 19th (depending on delivery schedule)
