Spanish
Students must receive a grade of at least a “C-“ in previous Spanish courses in order to have the opportunity to take the next level Spanish course. If a student receives a grade below a “C-“ in a Spanish course, he/she may opt to retake that class for no additional credit, but to raise the grade in order to advance to the next level Spanish course.

 
Spanish I - Year course    *Intensive Homework* - Grade 9 – 12
(Value: 1 credit for the entire year –Academic Elective)
Prerequisite: Freshman and sophomores must have a minimum "B" average in previous language courses or permission of the instructor to enroll. The class is an introductory course designed to introduce students to the Spanish language and culture. Students will practice all four essential language skills: reading, speaking, listening, and writing. High frequency topics such as school, sports, clothing, weather, colors, etc., will be presented. An emphasis will be placed on vocabulary acquisition and verbal communication with instruction presented via textbooks, C.D, the Internet, and videos. The class will be conducted in Spanish and English.

 
Spanish II - Year course     *Intensive Homework* - Grade 10 – 12
(Value: 1 credit for the entire year –Academic Elective)
Prerequisite: Minimum "C" average in Spanish I or permission of instructor. The class is a continuation of Spanish I. More practice of the four language skills will be provided as students begin to experiment with the language. An emphasis is placed on written communication and more cultural topics will be explored. The class will be conducted in Spanish and English.

 
Spanish III - Year course     *Intensive Homework* - Grade 11 – 12
(Value: 1 credit for the entire year –Academic Elective)
Prerequisite: Minimum "C" average in Spanish II or permission of instructor
The class is a continuation of Spanish II. Students will strive for proficiency of language skills and will explore the literature, art, music, and history of Spanish-speaking areas.
The class will be conducted primarily in Spanish. When enrollment numbers do not
permit a formal class, students will work independently under the supervision of the instructor.

 
Spanish IV - Year course      *Intensive Homework* - Grade 12
(Value: 1 credit for the entire year – Academic Elective)
Prerequisite: Minimum "C" average in Spanish III or permission of instructor
The class is a continuation of Spanish III. The class will be conducted primarily in Spanish. When enrollment numbers do not permit a formal class, students will work independently under the supervision of the instructor.
