Accounting
Year course - Grades 11-12 (Value: 1 credit for entire year - Elective)
Accounting involves the basic principles of accounting that are used in all big business and government. It also covers the use of many of the business forms used in today's business. The student can learn how to handle more than 25 business transactions. This class is of value to students planning on pursing careers other than just business and accounting. Some computer applications will also be completed. A "B" average is recommended for anyone taking this course and there is an opportunity to receive “transcripted credit”.
Computer Applications I
Semester Course - Grade 9-12 (Value: ½ credit - Elective)
This course will cover various aspects of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. In addition to Microsoft Office, we will work with Web 2.0 / 3.0 / 4.0 technologies (Prezi, Google, etc.) and digital citizenship. MS Word will include tables, tabs, forms, drawing, and more. Excel functions will focus on introductory equations and uses. Charting will also be covered. Various areas of PowerPoint will be covered and its relevance in course work and professional settings. Small amounts of photo editing will be covered as well. Students will do several projects and take away skills that will benefit them in other high school courses and life beyond high school. There is a potential for college credit.
Computer Applications II
Semester Course - Grade 9-12 (Value: ½ credit - Elective)
Prerequisite - Computer Applications I
This course will continue with the information learned in Computer Applications I. Microsoft Excel will be continued and Microsoft Access will be added. MS Excel will focus on advanced formulas and uses and MS Access will provide the basics of database management. We will cover designing a database, including setting up fields and their properties, forms and tables, queries and reports. A brief section on presentation software is included in this course. PhotoStory will be used to create Podcasts, MovieMaker, and Desktop Publishing software will be used to create individualized projects. There is potential for college credit.
Web Design I
Semester Course - Grades 9 – 12 (Value: ½ credit - Elective)
The goal of this course is to have students acquire useable web design skills. Students will be introduced to HTML and JavaScript. Students will learn to use Dreamweaver software to create, format and link documents as well as how to incorporate the use of tables, graphics, styles, forms, frames, scripts, multimedia, and other features onto the Web pages. Principles of effective design; Appropriate, legal and ethical use will be explored.
Web Design II
Semester Course – Grades 9 – 12 (Value: ½ credit - Elective)
Prerequisite - Must have completed Web Design I with a grade of “C” or better.
The goal of this course is to expand upon the skills acquired in the Intro to Web Design course. Students will be exposed to and learn to work with HTML, CSS, and the programming languages JavaScripts and PHP. Students will design, create optimize and maintain web sites.
Introduction to Business
Semester Course – Grade 9 -12 (Value: ½ credit - Elective)
Students enrolled in this course will be introduced to the world of business. Business concepts from the following areas will be explored: economics; ethics and social responsibility; business ownership and entrepreneurship; business management; sales, marketing, and advertising; and consumer decisions, credit, and finances. It is recommended that this course be taken before Marketing or Entrepreneurship.
Entrepreneurship
Semester course – Grades 9-12 (Value: ½ credit - Elective)
This course will help you gain an understanding of the business principles necessary to start and operate a business. You will develop an awareness of the opportunities for small business ownership and develop the planning skills needed to open a small business. This course will take the topics covered in Introduction to Business to a deeper level that relates to owning and operating your own business. An attempt to have hands on experience will be made. It is encouraged that you take Introduction to Business before this course.
Marketing: Sports and Entertainment
Semester Course Grades 9-12 (Value: ½ credit - Elective)
This course is designed to provide information that relates to the world of marketing and an understanding of the basic skills needed for positions in the Sports and Entertainment fields. Instruction includes marketing skills; techniques of advertising and promotions; the psychology of selling, and the management associated with the marketing of leisure-time activities and events. It is encouraged that you take Introduction to Business before this course.
IT Essentials I: PC Hardware and Software
Semester Course Grades 9-12 (Value: ½ credit - Elective)
This course explores the fundamentals of computer hardware and software as well as advanced concepts. Students who complete this course will be able to describe the internal components of a computer, assemble a computer system, install an operating system, and troubleshoot using system tools and diagnostic software. Topics studied will also include laptops and portable devices, wireless
connectivity, security, safety and environmental issues, and communication skills. Students should have basic PC usage skills for this course.
IT Essentials II: PC Hardware and Software
Semester Course Grades 9-12 (Value: ½ credit - Elective)
Prerequisite - Must have completed ITESS I, with a minimum grade C
This course is a continuation of the IT Essentials I course. The course consists of practical computing labs supplemented with additional study using CISCO learning materials.
