Saying Thank You

Submitted by Steve Sanders

Thank you to the communities of Hammond and Roberts for your support during my career as an educator at St. Croix Central.  My wife, Joanne, and I came to SCC in August of 1980 as newlyweds and have felt at home here from Day One.  We have always believed SCC is the best school district to live in and raise our children for the past 33 years.

This belief was confirmed as we watched the spirit of “SCC Strong” materialize as a result of the recent events at the elementary.  I doubt there are many districts that could have created anything like Panther Camp and opened the doors to the students by the following Monday!  Your hours of volunteering, generous donations, compassion and understanding of these circumstances were greatly appreciated these past six weeks.  Our students were given the opportunity to have a lifetime of memories with this recent experience.

I leave my position of an educator for the school district with sincere gratitude to you people. The warmth we were shown from the very beginning is definitely still a part of the Hammond and Roberts communities and continues to grow every day.

Donations

The outpouring of support has been overwhelming! Thanks to everyone who has donated time and supplies and/or have helped in so many other ways. Panther Camp got off to a great start on our first day! We believe we have all the school supplies and books needed for the remainder of the year.  We are not asking for donations; however if you still would like to donate, a check would probably be the most helpful.   You can send a check to the District Office at P.O. Box 118, Hammond, WI 54015.   WESTconsin Credit Union has setup an account on the school’s behalf.  You many send your donation to any WESTconsin Credit Union.  This website link will assist you with the correct address for each location.  http://westconsincu.org/AboutUs/contactus.aspx

Thanks so much!

Panther Camp Page

We have set up a page under the Elementary for Panther Camp. This page will have resources and information from administration, teachers, and the school counselor on it. It will also have pictures and video from activities at Panther Camp. Pictures are added as taken (nearly daily).

Reminder about student pictures: According to board policy 100.300 the district retains the right to publish pictures of students unless a parent or guardian notifies the district. If you would prefer your child's picture not be published on the school's website, please fill out this form.

Elementary School Damage

On May 3rd, staff at the elementary were allowed to enter the building to retrieve personal effects from their classrooms and survey the damage. No educational materials were retrieved at this time. To see a small selection of pictures of the damage click here.  There is also a few short video clips posted here.

UPDATE - Pictures were taken on May 14 of the clean-up effort so far. They can be viewed in the same web album as above.

UPDATE 2 - Elementary fire update information was released on May 31. The document can be read here.

UPDATE 3 - You can view the propsed remodel of the office and library HERE. This was presented at the June 3 community meeting.

Location of Panther Camp and Basic Bus Info

Click HERE for the location of camp and basic bus information.

All students who are normally dropped off at the elementary school in the afternoon will be dropped off at the Roberts Park Building located on Park Street in Roberts. This includes the 5:15 Shuttle from Hammond to Roberts.

Second Grade Strong!

For the past few weeks the second graders have been showing their resilience at Panther Camp! They are enjoying incorporating nature into their academic work. For example:  students can now differentiate between a male and a female tick, they have used word work time to do nature scavenger hunts with adjectives and with all the letters of the alphabet, and created name art out of sticks, stones, and other small objects.

Although we are at Panther Camp, we have continued on with all of our second grade curriculum. It just might look a little different! While some classrooms group outside, others remain indoors for work on creating arrays and solving multiplication equations. We continue to read to self and read to someone daily, and the kids look forward to writing in their camp journal at the end of every day.

As a way to bring our second graders together as a strong group, we established a rock to be our symbol of strength. The children all found, colored, and created a beautiful rock pendant to put on a camp necklace. Each necklace has six beads on it to represent the six second grade classrooms. This will remind students to stay strong and move forward together!

We would like to thank everyone for making our transition to camp so smooth and possible. We hope we have made the end of their second grade year as memorable and successful as possible!

Attention parents of SCC Incoming KG for 2013-2014

Kindergarten Registration

We were hoping that the registration materials and health forms we have received could be salvaged, but unfortunately all was lost in the fire.

Steps to re-register are as follows:

  1. Current 4K students – please verify the student registration/emergency form and sign (this form went home with students during the last week of 4K).
  2. Go to the Registration Information page (listed under Elementary > For Parents). Select all KG forms listed to be completed.
  3. If hard copies are needed, please email Kim Nielsen at knielsen@scc.k12.wi.us.
  4. Completed forms can be dropped off at the SCC Middle or High Schools in Hammond.  Forms can also be mailed to SCC Elementary School, PO Box 129, Roberts, WI 54023.
  5. PLEASE SUBMIT ALL FORMS BY JUNE 21 - In order to allow us enough time to enter student information into our database to assign bus routes.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we move "Forward Together."
