AlertNow

Can I be notified earlier about unscheduled late starts or school cancellations? Typically announcements such as this are set to go out at 6:00 a.m. If you would like to be notified earlier, please sign up for notification from KSTP television. KSTP will be the first notified by administration as soon as a decision has been made.

AlertNow Emergency Notification System
Please Read This Thoroughly

What is AlertNow?
AlertNow is a rapid electronic communication system which allows school officials to use phone numbers and e-mail addresses of parents to quickly contact them about important school announcements.

Can I get text messages sent to my cell phone?
AlertNow requires those wanting to receive text messages to “opt-in” for this service. You may sign-up now by going to www.alertnowsms.com and entering our school district’s six-digit PIN number. DB4SCC

Why do I need to update our family’s phone numbers and e-mail addresses?
AlertNow uses the phone numbers and e-mail addresses in our student information system (Skyward) to contact parents with important messages. You can make choices in your Family Access account that will determine which phone numbers and e-mail accounts will be used to send AlertNow messages. Please be sure to select from the drop-down list: home, work, cell or other for each phone number listed.

AlertNow does not dial phone extension numbers, so if your work number includes an extension please list your work number as your third phone number in your Family Access account.

Which phone numbers and e-mail addresses will be used for AlertNow messages?
School officials will be using AlertNow to send two different types of messages; Emergency and General.

General Messages - AlertNow will use the primary phone number and e-mail listed in Family Access for both Family 1 and Family 2 to deliver general messages. AlertNow will leave messages if no one answers the phone and will try to call back two additional times if the phone is busy.

Emergency Messages - For emergency messages AlertNow will use the contact information used for general messages plus the 1st and 2nd phone numbers listed in Family Access for all guardians. AlertNow will not call the third number listed under any guardian. (The 1st number listed under each guardian defaults to the family’s primary number. You may change your 1st number listed under your guardian if you want another number called for emergency messages.)

AlertNow will use all e-mail addresses listed in Family Access to deliver emergency messages.

Will AlertNow call my work number?
It depends. AlertNow will call your work number if you want it to. If you don’t want your work number called, enter your work number as the third phone number listed in your Family Access account. Please be sure to select the phone type (work) in the drop-down list for all phone numbers. (Home, cell, work, other)

Ø      Please do not delete your work number from your Family Access account; this information is very important to school officials.

Can I add additional e-mail addresses to my Family Access account?
You may add e-mail addresses to any guardian simply by adding a comma (,) and a space after the e-mail address listed and then entering an additional e-mail address.

How do I obtain a Family Access Account?
If you don’t have a Family Access Account please go to:
http://www.scc.k12.wi.us/ds_family_access_form.cfm
Or - www.scc.k12.wi.us >For Parents>Family Access Getting Started

How do I update my family’s phone numbers and e-mail addresses in Family Access?
Log-in to your Family Access account and click on “Request Changes to My Child’s Information” which is located on the right-hand side of the screen along the very top. Then along the right-hand side of the new screen click on “Request Changes to Family Information”. School officials must approve all requested changes made through Family Access.

Please make changes for only ONE student per family. Once requested changes are approved for one student, the changes will be effective for all students in the family.

You may also contact the school office to have your phone numbers and e-mail addresses updated.

Who do I contact to ask questions about AlertNow?
You may e-mail alertnow@scc.k12.wi.us or call any of the school offices.

April 6, 2010

Dear Parents,

Keeping you informed is a priority of our staff and school board. That’s why we’ve adopted the AlertNow Notification Service which will allow us to send telephone or e-mail messages to you providing important information about school events or emergencies. We anticipate using AlertNow to notify you of school delays or cancellations due to inclement weather, as well as to remind you about important school events such as parent teacher conferences, open houses and field trips.

What you need to know about receiving messages from AlertNow:
· AlertNow will send urgent/emergency messages to numerous phone and e-mail accounts. (Up to 5)
· Caller ID will display 411 when urgent/emergency messages are delivered.
· AlertNow will send general messages to only two phone and e-mail accounts.
· Caller ID will display the school’s main number when general announcements are delivered.
· If the AlertNow message stops playing, press 1 and the message will replay from the beginning.
· AlertNow will leave a message on any answering machine or voicemail system and usually records the message a second time in case the beginning of the message doesn’t get recorded.
· AlertNow can’t call or send you e-mails if the school doesn’t have your up-to-date information.

We will be launching a test “emergency” call (and e-mail) on Thursday, April 22nd at 6:00 p.m. We’ll send the message as an emergency message so that we can see if you receive it on multiple phones and e-mail accounts. Please go into your Family Access account prior to the 22nd to add or delete phone numbers and e-mail addresses. (To make changes, click “Request Changes to My Child’s Information”.) You can enter additional e-mail addresses into your account by putting a comma (,) after the first e-mail address and adding a second e-mail address on the same line. If you don’t currently have a Family Access account, click on the “For Parent” link on our website www.scc.k12.wi.us. You may also contact the school office to have your phone numbers and e-mail addresses updated.

Beginning this summer we will upgrade to AlertNow’s premium service which, among other things, will allow text messages to also be sent. You will be required to sign-up for the text messaging. (Standard text messaging fees apply.) More information on this will soon be available on the “For Parents” section of our website.

We are excited to incorporate AlertNow as a tool to improve parent/school communication and look forward to having the ability to deliver real-time information to you and provide awareness of all the great events that take place within the school. As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me concerning any school related matter. (715 796-2256, ext 373 or dbradley@scc.k12.wi.us)
